Stern - Sega Harley Davidson Hyperthin
Next City Hole Protector
(Thanks to Rowdy Ray Johnson and
Dangerous Dann Frank for testing, templates and pics!)
Stern's H-D is a fun game but boy does it take a beating at the Next City scoop hole. Dann Frank takes us through an epoxy putty repair of the hole and installation of the protector. The repair keeps the protector from deforming and makes the shots much more solid. It's simple to do so follow along! First off you need to get some epoxy putty like Quick Wood or PC Lumber. Home Depot and other hardware stores have it as well as my good friend Scot Bogart at www.pinrestore.com
Here Dann has kneaded enough putty to pack it into the edges of the hole. No
need for finesse at this point. Use a plastic putty knife or Scot's little
plastic purple razor blades (pinrestore.com) to shave the putty flush with the
top of the playfield. The putty sets within 15 minutes so don't dally!
The protector is installed while the putty is still soft. This helps
form it to the hole. Use cooking spray or silicone spray on the back of the
protector to prevent sticking. Dann said he didn't need to do that but if you
have a problem I recommend it. While the protector is in the hole go ahead and
trim away the excess epoxy putty and then remove the protector. Smooth the putty
with your plastic razor or knife and then let it cure about 30 minutes. Once
cured you can sand with 600 wet or dry and then do any paint touchups you need
to do.
Here we can see where some touchup is needed. We also see how the protector
mounts using the two posts behind the scoop.
And here it is all touched up and installed including plastics. Very
nice and a factory appearance!
Only $33 to protect your Stern H-D!
